Change Management: The People Side 1 CPE

Course Duration: 1 Hours
Course Rating:
Course Enrollments: 161 Enrolled
Mode of Delivery: On-Demand
Course Level: Basic
Study Area: Business Management & Organization

This course focuses on the people side of change.  No matter the cause, the result is that your staff needs to adjust to new ways of thinking, acting, and working.  Change is everywhere and might be large or small.  Even the smallest of changes can create fear and resistance.

We review the major reasons for change, the basic stages of change and models for change, all from the perspective of the needs of the people involved. Many examples, especially those from Finance organizations, are offered along with explanations as to what caused the change and the emotional responses of those affected by it.

Next we discuss various reactions experienced by those forced to change and, finally, we offer strategies for minimizing the negative impact of change and maximizing the effective and creative responses by those properly engaged and motivated.

Solutions are offered that engage management and staff alike.

Prerequisites

Prerequisite: Management experience

Advanced Preparation: None

Learning Objective
  • Define the dynamics of organizational change as it applies to the people involved.
  • Identify the types of change and the processes needed to make them successful.
  • Identify the techniques management can use in leading and managing the change.
  • Recognize how to respond to the needs and resistance to change experienced by those being required to make the change.
  • Discover how to design the strategies and tactics that will lead to successful acceptance of change.

I liked the course as it outlined logically some, not all, of the change issues businesses and people face. Change is hard and how we embrace it is different for everyone no matter where they are in the organisation.

I found the personality style quadrant very helpful in understanding my need for flexibility and learning "how to read the room." Much more flexibility compared to Myers-Briggs. I particularly appreciated the instructor's perspectives on how we can adapt our behaviors to work effectively work with counterparts who demonstrate different styles.

I like to read the slide decks in the pdf format. The pdfs for this course were not sufficient to learn the content.

Terrible quiz questions....wrong tenses and unprofessional grammar (E.g. "little white lies" and "cut it"). Also, thanks for the interesting but totally irrelevant adrenal system questions.

This course would be informative for someone right out of college or someone that has been in the workforce for a number of years. It reinforces what is acceptable today and not what was acceptable in time past.

Lynn, the generational divide is an important concept to understand when hiring. This class helps me to understand the challenges in how I must lead the different members on my Team. The biggest challenge is in group meetings and in Team building. This course is very helpful. Thank you, Larry

This course meets the AICPA ethics requirements for AZ CPAs and is better than some alternative courses I considered.

If you want a good refresher or overview of ASC 606, this course provides that. If you wanted answers on how COVID impacts the application of ASC 606, this course is good at identifying questions to consider but leave many questions unanswered.

There were repeating slides in the presentation. They should be removed to make the presentation flow better.

I found this second module to be more instructive/informational than the first with more actionable information.

I enjoyed this presentation, it provided a new insight on correcting small (and large) safety issues that are found in most businesses. You also receive guidance on ergonomics, proper lifting, etc., and who can't use that?

The material is useful but the instructor is monotone, which makes it difficult to stay engaged.

The course was good. Provided general and basic information and background on subject matter making you aware of various cognitive styles, as stated in the course objectives. It is up to you to now ascertain your style and those around you to make potential adjustments that can lead to more positive, productive interpersonal relationships, including communication, empathy and caring to name a few. Good stuff that makes you "think" about how to grow and improve, and consider and address style differences. Can't ask for much more in a basic course over an hour than to lay out the context and a bit of the road map. Like other course and learning, the real work is now to apply these concepts during the journey.

Further definition of the difference between what is "realistic" vs. what is "attainable" would be helpful. Give examples of where a goal is one but not the other.

I enjoyed this course. The instructor had real-life knowledge and examples that he drew from to teach the steps in the vendor negotiation process. This course went step-by-step through what to consider for your first negotiation.

This was a good overview to understanding BI and offered basic tools to implement.

It seemed a little odd to spend only 10 percent of the class on solutions and not to have a section on examples of how solutions work. I think there was some of this in the rest of the course, but it wasn't explicit.

Barry needs more energy. What he says is really interesting. But his monotone presentation even had him yawning (I actually heard him yawn twice). The exam (CPE for me) was unpleasant as well. Maybe that was the intent.

Very informative course. I was suprised to find out who the most likely were to commit fraud. I think everyone would gain from taking this course. Be careful with the exam to read the question more than once before answering.

User Image

This is definitely not an introductory course. The instructor assumes that the student understands general FX terminology. While the course was structured in an easy to follow format, the context was difficult to follow given my lack of knowledge in this area. I have no idea what I learned in the last hour of taking this course!
