Mode of Delivery: on_demand
Course Level: Basic
Study Area: Computer Software & Applications

Microsoft Excel is considered one of the most useful tools in the workplace. However, if Excel is used incorrectly, it can seriously drag down productivity. This course guides you through shortcuts and functions to enable you to boost your productivity and shave valuable time from repetitive tasks. You'll learn:

Selected Shortcuts

Keep your hands on your keyboard to improve your speed. This online Excel course explores 5 shortcuts that assist when writing formulas and functions. The Excel lesson includes F9, fill down and right, Ctrl+Home, row shortcuts and column shortcuts. It also follows up on a discussion from Volume 1 Chapter 6, and expands the utility of F2.

Conditional Summing Basics

Have you explored the conditional summing functions in Excel? The SUMIFS function is absolutely a game changer.  This online Excel course introduces the multiple condition sum function SUMIFS. The Excel lesson works through the syntax of the function, and provides several practical examples so you can work hands-on.

Remove Duplicates

This online Excel course explores how to remove duplicate values from lists and tables. This Excel lesson demonstrates how to use the remove duplicates feature to generate a unique list of report labels.

Lookup Basics with VLOOKUP

Are you comfortable performing lookups in Excel? They are the keys that unlock significant efficiency in recurring-use workbooks. This online Excel course covers the cornerstone of all Excel lookup functions, VLOOKUP. This Excel lesson covers the function syntax, and provides numerous exercises so you can work hands-on to develop your skill.

Improve VLOOKUP with MATCH

This online Excel course demonstrates how to address a serious limitation of the VLOOKUP function. The VLOOKUP function will break when a user inserts a new column between the lookup and return columns. This Excel lesson explores the MATCH function, and illustrates how to use it to bypass this VLOOKUP limitation. We work through the syntax of the function, and provide several practical examples so you can work hands-on.

Improve VLOOKUP with TEXT and VALUE

This online Excel course addresses a serious limitation of the VLOOKUP function, the fact that equivalent values stored as different data types won't match. That is, the number 100 won't match 100 in the lookup range if stored as a text string. This lesson demonstrates how to bypass this limitation by using the TEXT and VALUE functions. We work through the syntax of the function, and provide several practical examples so you can work hands-on.

Moving Beyond VLOOKUP with INDEX

This online Excel course addresses a major limitation of the VLOOKUP function, the inability to go left. That is, the VLOOKUP function is not designed to return a value that lies to the left of the lookup column. This Excel lesson demonstrates how to bypass this limitation by using the INDEX function. We work through the syntax of the function, and provide several practical examples so you can work hands-on.

Prerequisites

No Advanced Preparation or Prerequisites are needed for this course. However, it is recommended to take the other courses in the series prior to completing this one.

Learning Objective
  • Increase your Excel speed with selected shortcuts
  • Remove duplicates from lists and tables

More content than I was expecting. Went into some detail with how to calculate pricing. I will be taking the two other courses in this mini series.

User Image
gene.cenotto

The course did a nice job and explained important, relevant information in a manageable and easy-to- digest manner.

User Image
michael.luzar

Excellent knowledge as a presenter, but there is no way that a test for a little 2-hr CPE course like this should ever be that difficult.

User Image
xinlu.wen

The examples would be better if written out. It is hard to catch by just listening.

User Image
william.neighbour

This is really a refresher course where Lenny reviews prior courses but he puts it all together, showing how various features can be utilized to build a robust dashboard.

User Image
karn.carlozzi

there was an extensive amount of material to learn and understand. Maybe do more explanations and less amount of concepts.

User Image
james.chuang

Good overview of SOX 302, including the history, the requirements, explanations of the key components, and relation to SOX 404.

User Image
mariana.estrada

very good introduction to power query. have not used this function in excel and found it very interesting

User Image
caitlyn.post

This was a very long course. The material was informative but very dry. Knowing this, I would probably break this up into multiple sittings instead of trying to get through a continuous play.

User Image
cheri.zuidema

Good course explaining how account takeovers can occur and ways individuals and businesses can protect themselves.

User Image
monica.mougeot

Very helpful course as I WAS a former bullet queen.

carol.herre

Very clear explanations and examples of Ethics vs Morality vs the Law. Also, how we operate within each. Lynn gave a thorough and thoughtful presentation. I always enjoy and learn from her training.

User Image
ann.sharp

Lot of unnecessary politics in this course. Ethics is something that doesn't need to be politicized. It detracts from the arguments.

User Image
bettie.mccarthy

This was an excellent overview of the budget process in review. It is not a detailed budget process but it is sufficient to outline the major points.

User Image
arvydas.tenenis

Ethical issues are sometimes downrated, what is not correct. Great presentation.

User Image
jill.todd

easy to understand, slides were good form of study guide

Rob does an outstanding job of effectively teaching the Key Performance Indicators and KPI Dashboards. The course was well-structured, providing a comprehensive understanding of KPIs and their critical role in measuring and driving business performance. The content was insightful and easy to follow, with a perfect blend of theory and practical examples. The section on creating KPI dashboards was particularly valuable, offering hands-on guidance on designing and implementing effective dashboards that provide real-time insights into business performance. The instructor was knowledgeable and engaging, making complex concepts accessible and relevant. The interactive elements and practical exercises helped reinforce the learning and provided me with the confidence to apply these concepts to my own work. Overall, this course is a must for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of KPIs and enhance their ability to track and manage performance effectively. I highly recommend it!

I am a CPA that works in a publicly traded company and most of the ethics courses are firm based. I like the perspective on this course being non-firm.

User Image
wendy.jones

This course had surprising tips. It is always good to be reminded what excel can do and surprising when I learn something I didn't know or get an idea I didn't think about. Ringstrom is always great at showing how to create efficiencies with Excel.

User Image
bruce.quayle

Always like her courses. Very easy to understand and process the information. She clearly understands the topic and uses good detail.

User Image
dominick.pariano

What a fantastic course! This course was chock full of great tips and general ideas. Definitely a ton of "a ha" kind of moments and very helpful for those of us at the middle management level who would like to try to convince the Executive level that moving even at least to data mining would be helpful. Also, really appreciated the presenter's use of helpful visuals as well.

User Image
brett.federer

A great intro course into Excel, I would recommend to others.

User Image
nicholas.wilhelm

The excitement of the content combined with the enthusiasm and insight of Mr. Wasny make this course, along with those he presents on AI, the most inspiring and motivational I've experienced on this platform.

User Image
craig.farabaugh

Good overview of the subject material. Covered all the major points.

User Image
go.tanaka

Great overview of the various types of cognitive dissonance and biases that we humans fall into. If you've taken a behavioral psychology course or enrolled in the CFA program, this material may not be new to you (e.g. Ariely, Kahneman, Sen...if you recognize these names, you do not need to take this course.)

User Image
robert.workman

Honestly, I got more out of watching Ted Talks and YouTube videos ...

I like the trick to think of at least 3 options or choices in deciding on solutions to a problem.

User Image
roger.brugger

they didn't give clear examples on the courses and it was hard to navigate through it unless you go to search by yourself

User Image
chad.bailey

Materials need some improvement. They are just bullet points without any context. That's good for normal presentations, but won't be useful if trying to use as a guide later on when the information is not fresh in our minds.

User Image
andrew.futty

Good introduction to the investing segment of the treasury function.

User Image
kaye.gaines

I have taken 2 of Mr. Ihde's courses. They were both very informative and helpful. Please bring more of his courses to Illumeo.

User Image
linda.jacobs

Presenter is easy to listen to but, the course needs real world examples - not just reading tax brackets.

User Image
shannon.gilmore

Another great course - helps provide real-world examples to visualize ethical situations.

User Image
sherry.gong

What I appreciated: The recap at the end is helpful to reinforce the most important concepts. The quizes are a nice touch because it tests your knowledge while you're watching the course. Areas of improvement: There is a lot of content in this short course, and it would be overwhelming for someone who has no experience in accounting. Additionally, I think it's much more helpful to learners to teach that Assets = Liabilities + Equity rather than Assets - Liabilities = Equity, so it reinforces the idea that Liabilities & Equity should have a credit balances. When going over the example for Lesson 2: Posting Entries (continued), it would be helpful to list the numbers we know before showing the correct entry.

User Image
jeremy.killmer

This was a great overview/introduction to Power Query. Users with no exposure to the process will not be overwhelmed. Good supporting materials, but it would be nice to have access to the source files to make the practice more realistic. Overall highly recommended, especially to beginners.

User Image

User Image
jared.watts

The information provided in this course was presented well and provided a good overall understanding of the planning process of an audit. However, the exam itself needs to be proofread as there were several questions that were written so poorly as to make no sense of the question being asked.

User Image
kimberly.parks

I love this course! Practical and motivating, actionable advice to drive your business forward. Implementing advice right away.

User Image
julie.schmidt_1

This is one of the worst classes I have taken. The lecture is obviously read off a script and not well done. The content of the slides is not in a great format. Finally the review and final exam have a bunch of questions that don't even make sense. Skip this.

I liked the text format of this course! Will use it again in the future.

User Image

This course would be informative for someone right out of college or someone that has been in the workforce for a number of years. It reinforces what is acceptable today and not what was acceptable in time past.

User Image

I liked the way the trainer presented the topic to clarify the concepts in the easiest way.

Good course overall. The instructor is knowledgeable and interactive, but it was hard to follow and keep up at times because the instructor went a little too fast and used too many technical terms.

User Image
ionut.iosub

to long, could be more sintetic; it seems to be boring at some time.

User Image
sara.baker

Very helpful course that makes you better appreciate the controls in place at companies and realize the risks of not having these controls. Management review is very important too and I was surprised that tips was number one.

User Image
thor.bendickson

Though the material in this course was well thought out and presented, I found it distasteful and unpatriotic to include a former president, not just as an example of an amoral/immoral leader, but also the answer to an exam question. Keep your politics out of my professional learning materials...

User Image
bev.stenger

Two exam questions were super confusing. Not well written. #2 and #4, other than that, was an excellent course

User Image
seth.fankhauser

The course offers great suggestions for how a 1:1 meeting can contribute to career building success.

User Image
erin.carle

I liked the different ways to look at things throughout our life daily.

User Image
reaghan.reid

I didn't feel like the questions about The TV Show or "Nerds" were appropriate to the material. "Nerd" tends to be perceived as a derogatory term and doesn't feel like it fits in with the concept of Emotional Intelligence.

User Image
ting_yun.ting-stoffregen

The instructor was very thorough on explaining xlookup and its functionality. Furthermore, he provided detailed examples on how to overcome the constraints of vlookup, hlookup, xlookup and other formulas.

User Image

User Image
emily.moran

This course was really interesting because I learned about some of the new things I can do with 365. Definitely recommended. However, digging into the differences between various versions of Excel is not too interesting.

User Image
megan.lesko

Informative and engaging. Good examples to use in real life presentations.

User Image
claudia_jones

High level overview which is good, but I would appreciate accounting courses that were more detail. Illumeo appears to be lacking in government accounting courses.

User Image
maddison.lopez

Great review of the financial statements for CPE credit. Great professor and lesson.

Great basic course to provide a basic understanding of business combinations under topic 805. Would be better if it was not a text based course but an instructor led program.

Great course Lenny - step by step simple instructions for tips and tricks regarding pivot tables.

User Image
octavia.saunders

This class was very informative, I like how they gave detailed examples to have a better understanding.

User Image
diana.carter

There should be a handout which can be referred to with more information that assists with the exam. This took longer than 3 hours.

User Image
hkirson

The macros were a good introduction for someone who has never used them to see how powerful they can be in mass reporting. Getting briefly into the coding behind it when that was not the true takeaway of this course was a bit too much information as I got too focused on seeing the code rather than the purpose of the actual code.

User Image
smclaughlin_1

Having been away from Excel for a while I remembered how to use VLOOKUP but couldn't recall how to use INDEX/MATCH. The exercises really helped me to regain that knowhow.

User Image

This was an excellent presentation of tools that are key to efficient payroll analysis. The overview followed by the actual application in the worksheet was extremely helpful in following along. All excel courses should be taught this way. Slides were well formatted and are usable for future reference.

The overlap of information on the slides makes it hard for reference purposes.

User Image
eustunda

I thought Erik did a good job of covering the basics of the statement of cash flows in a short amount of time, but I wish that the final exam had been a better test of the viewer's knowledge. The questions were very basic and I would've much preferred being given a balance sheet/income statement and forced to construct a statement of cash flows that way. Still, I thought the instruction throughout was clear and the layout of the course made sense.

User Image
binita.thakker
