The Art and Science of Interviewing 1 CPE

Course Duration: 1 Hours
Course Rating:
Course Enrollments: 212 Enrolled
Mode of Delivery: On-Demand
Course Level: Basic
Study Area: Communications & Marketing

Whether you are the interviewer or the person being interviewed, there are many commonalities to what you do and say.  In this course we discuss the more common interview situations found in the workplace and offer suggestions for handling each of these situations.

The process of interacting with other people is both an art and a science.  The interview situation is no different, so wherever possible the advice we give will include some of the techniques used by those who are artful. Sometimes the information offered  will cover pre-interview strategies, such as networking and resume writing.

We cover the interviewer's role as hiring manager, HR or private recruiter, having to counsel an employee whose work is not up to par, investigating a complaint of inappropriate behavior and responding to a request for an informational interview.  For the interviewee we discuss seeking a promotion, job searching, proving your worth, or why the job didn’t get done and responding to an allegation of inappropriate behavior.

The material is dense and detailed. Be prepared to read and reread to fully comprehend.

I always enjoy Neil's classes and how he teaches. His storytelling always makes the class fun and engaging. I love how simple the concepts always seem when he breaks things down. Difficult people are tough to deal with and work with, but, we always have the choice to deal with it and control ourselves, or, we let ourselves get affected by the negative emotion. But, the choice is ours.

Terrible quiz questions....wrong tenses and unprofessional grammar (E.g. "little white lies" and "cut it"). Also, thanks for the interesting but totally irrelevant adrenal system questions.

This was a great course to introduce me to features of excel that I have never used to give me a great understanding of how they might be used in practical everyday applications of Excel.

This course would be informative for someone right out of college or someone that has been in the workforce for a number of years. It reinforces what is acceptable today and not what was acceptable in time past.

I enjoyed this presentation, it provided a new insight on correcting small (and large) safety issues that are found in most businesses. You also receive guidance on ergonomics, proper lifting, etc., and who can't use that?

Great course in ethics of the CFO. Employees will only be as good as their management and this course emphasizes how the CFO can set the standard.

Would appreciate more examples in the presentation - to cover more specific real life transactions. Or, more working through the math alongside IRS definitions/precidents and real deal terms. A working excel model, such as provided for other classes covering cash flow budgeting, might help as well. For one who is interested in the topic but has not handled a transaction in real life, more examples might help bridge gaps in terminology as well--had to research triple net leases offline for example, so my time to finish the course to well over the estimate. Thank you for the great presentation and valuable knowledge!!

I enjoyed this course. The instructor had real-life knowledge and examples that he drew from to teach the steps in the vendor negotiation process. This course went step-by-step through what to consider for your first negotiation.

User Image
kim.loanzon

I felt like the final exam was too easy and the wrong answers were very obvious. Though it was good for me/my CPE credits, I don't think its an effective way to evaluate whether or not I understood the materials.

User Image
michael.robertson

The speed of the presenter when talking was way too fast. We were learning about presenting to non financial managers and I could not keep up with the flow of information. Way too fast and way too much.
