What is The Road Map to Career Success? 1 CPE

Course Duration: 1 Hours
Course Rating:
Course Enrollments: 5542 Enrolled
Mode of Delivery: on_demand
Course Level: Basic
Study Area: Personal Development

Most employees believe their managers have their best interests at heart. Many managers want to help, but don’t know how. Employees are typically thrown into the water and expected to sink or swim, and few are given a manual on how to swim.

Career advice is typically reactive, tactical, and not tied to a company’s culture or a strategic road map for career success. Those who receive daily work instructions are seldom given the road map for how to proactively compete for jobs and promotions.

This course begins with a short review of the Strategic Formula #1 and how well you are currently competing. Then we explain a new paradigm for becoming the Value Worker that companies want to hire and promote. Next, we disclose a strategic paradigm definition that may surprise most of you. I call this strategic paradigm the “Laws of Business”. This is the same definition that businesses use for success and you can too. Finally, we show you the Strategic Career Road Map for how to compete in your career marketplace. You can use this Road Map immediately to get started on optimizing your personally defined path toward future career success.

Prerequisites

Prerequisite: It is recommended that prior to taking this course you also take:

Why Do You Need to Compete in Your Career?

Advanced Preparation: None

Learning Objective
  • Identify where you have competitive gaps using the Strategic Formula #1
  • Define the concept of a “Value Worker”
  • Define the “Laws of Business” and recognize how to personally apply them for career success
  • Discover the Strategic Career Road Map for providing you a strategic model with tactical steps that you can follow today and continue using for the rest of your life

User Image
karen.schrader

Good refresher course that could benefit all from goal setting to delegation.

User Image
carol.kimbrell

This course was pretty straightforward and easy to follow. This was the first text-based course Ive done. The test questions corresponded well to the text.

User Image
renee.neyman

Great text-based course. If you are looking for AI content relevant to finance and accounting, this is a good pick.

User Image
hyoe.nakagiri_1

I found the personality style quadrant very helpful in understanding my need for flexibility and learning "how to read the room." Much more flexibility compared to Myers-Briggs. I particularly appreciated the instructor's perspectives on how we can adapt our behaviors to work effectively work with counterparts who demonstrate different styles.

User Image
mariana.estrada

very good introduction to power query. have not used this function in excel and found it very interesting

User Image
ambria.sandy

The PowerPoint seems dated and needs to be spell checked for grammatical errors.

User Image
david.williams_1

Good overview of operational risk. Excellent refresher course for the high-level topics.

User Image
kimberly.martin

I like to read the slide decks in the pdf format. The pdfs for this course were not sufficient to learn the content.

User Image
darrell.kamph

Nice continuation from the 1st segment. The use of available Technology tools can really be a game-changer is this area. Thanks for the short, but meaningful course.

User Image

This course provide major insight to procedures that are easily applicable in the working environment and that will prove beneficial to detecting money laundering.

User Image

Good discussion but I don't think the answer for the first review question is correct.

User Image

Rob does an outstanding job of effectively teaching the Key Performance Indicators and KPI Dashboards. The course was well-structured, providing a comprehensive understanding of KPIs and their critical role in measuring and driving business performance. The content was insightful and easy to follow, with a perfect blend of theory and practical examples. The section on creating KPI dashboards was particularly valuable, offering hands-on guidance on designing and implementing effective dashboards that provide real-time insights into business performance. The instructor was knowledgeable and engaging, making complex concepts accessible and relevant. The interactive elements and practical exercises helped reinforce the learning and provided me with the confidence to apply these concepts to my own work. Overall, this course is a must for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of KPIs and enhance their ability to track and manage performance effectively. I highly recommend it!

User Image
ariella.gugenheim

Great course, great job, thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

User Image
dominick.pariano

What a fantastic course! This course was chock full of great tips and general ideas. Definitely a ton of "a ha" kind of moments and very helpful for those of us at the middle management level who would like to try to convince the Executive level that moving even at least to data mining would be helpful. Also, really appreciated the presenter's use of helpful visuals as well.

User Image
melanie.beauchamp

Good topic and good real world examples. Applicable to work life.

User Image
seth.deyo

I believe that there is some audio repetition about half way through. Great course, might just want to take a look at that.

User Image
carol.sama

Interesting framework, although not exactly revolutionary thinking. However, does give some helpful tips on where to start, how to evaluate progress, and a reminder on how to drive long term career success.

User Image
avraham.mafouda

Clear, concise, and practical. Perfect for beginners!

User Image
matthew.delaney

I will comment on one aspect of the course in particular. The presenter recommended criminal background checks as a method to prevent fraud. He fails to address the issue that biases in the criminal justice system against racial minorities result in such checks having a disparate impact on those same minorities. He also does not address the fact that such checks will turn up information that is prejudicial but of questionable relevance for preventing fraud (for example, minor drug convictions or other minor violations of the law), which in turn will make it difficult for people with those convictions to move on from their pasts. Other than that, the course was good.

User Image
lorisherrill04

This was a good course if you're looking for short and sweet. It was a little retro in the presentation, but the information was still valid.

User Image
mary.ferguson

Learned new items in excel I didn't know before. At age 66, wish i had known before now.

User Image
kristine.clevenger

I really enjoyed this webinar. It gave me a lot to think about with my own management style.

User Image
mark.eastman

User Image
jennifer.bollinger

User Image

User Image
jessica.spaulding

Another great course from David Ringstrom. I always learn a lot from his excel courses. I am glad to have learned about the xlookup function. I think it is something I will be using a lot.

User Image
yu.zhao

It's in a very high level . The slides are good but very difficult to understand for ppl without accounting background.

User Image
timphilips1

Terrible quiz questions....wrong tenses and unprofessional grammar (E.g. "little white lies" and "cut it"). Also, thanks for the interesting but totally irrelevant adrenal system questions.

User Image
suzanne.laird

useful modeling, good high level overview, minimum character requirement, minimum character requirement, minimum character requirement,

User Image
ali.hamed

Lynn's courses are always easy to follow with great examples. I appreciated the concept of IC being embeded into the organization for reasons beyond compliance. Thank you, Lynn!

User Image
julie.varoz

Great overview for end of year, helpful for preparation and review of statements

User Image
kevin.murray

The course covers a significant amount of material that is often uncommon such as disposal of divisions and going concern treatments. It's well done and interesting.

User Image
mwinncpa85

I especially appreciated the David Foster Wallace commencement speech at the end.

User Image
julie.christman

Liked the course. Questions on specific states laws in the quiz were a bit confusing.

User Image
sherry.gong

What I appreciated: The recap at the end is helpful to reinforce the most important concepts. The quizes are a nice touch because it tests your knowledge while you're watching the course. Areas of improvement: There is a lot of content in this short course, and it would be overwhelming for someone who has no experience in accounting. Additionally, I think it's much more helpful to learners to teach that Assets = Liabilities + Equity rather than Assets - Liabilities = Equity, so it reinforces the idea that Liabilities & Equity should have a credit balances. When going over the example for Lesson 2: Posting Entries (continued), it would be helpful to list the numbers we know before showing the correct entry.

User Image
laurie.mcmillen

lot of great information but it comes at you very quickly

User Image
carlos.rangel

Very concise and to the point. I like the instructor's ideas to improve the book's closing timing. It was well-presented and organized.

User Image
brian.johnson_2

Interesting and informative course with relevant information to understand the controllership function. Easy to follow and understand.

User Image
michelle.adams

Enjoyed the instructors enthusiasm of the subject. However, this is a technical course and the materials (PDF) were not helpful in providing a take away for what was taught.

User Image
sarah.anchecta

Well explained and detailed content! I would recommend the course.

User Image
jessica.beck

The instructor spoke a little slow for my taste. I had to speed up the video to help me follow along. Good course, though.

User Image
ermendoza_12

This course provides some great information. The topics covered are very helpful as well.

User Image
kelly.trimper

Great course! Well thought out materials and excellent examples within.

User Image
oksana.sofron

Great excel tricks that I forgot about. I can't wait to use them at work.

User Image
sarah.pedroley

The instructor was very well spoken and easy to follow. But who ever wrote the course exams did not proof read at all. Not only were there several typos, but several were missing key words to the question. Thankfully the answers listed make it relatively simple to figure out which one option is correct, but it came off a bit sloppy.

User Image
joseph.meagher

Very detailed course with many real world examples.

User Image
judy

This course was excellent, I send a large number of emails and I learned a lot of tips.

User Image
mark.murdaugh

Thank you for including the example questions, I found them very helpful in understanding the course content.

User Image

The information provided in this course was presented well and provided a good overall understanding of the planning process of an audit. However, the exam itself needs to be proofread as there were several questions that were written so poorly as to make no sense of the question being asked.

User Image
cheryl.husmann

This was a great refresher on keeping healthy boundaries & helps identify types of boundary issues. Great class! Thanks!

User Image
jeff.cassell

Excellent speaker who is clear, concise, and gave relevant examples that supplemented the course theories.

User Image
tatiana.farrow

Felt like a TEDtalk, I thought the stories were irrelevant.

User Image
szel@google.com

this class is great for California CPA, keep us complies with AICPA

User Image
vickie.cockrum

In total, it was very informative & I appreciated the detailed explanations. However I could have done without the instructors introduction of all of his background. Also the summary on how this course compares to similar courses was not needed.

Excellent course for helping refresh what most of us learned in Intermediate Accounting. Content is good and well delivered. My only complaint is the sound quality isn't great in a couple of the modules and should be redone.

User Image
derek.woodworth

Considering this was only an hour long course, it did a great job of giving an overview of a bookkeeper. I enjoyed how it was laid out by daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly functions.

The audio was very low in this course, it was hard to hear. I appreciated the negotiations portion of this course, it was very insightful.

User Image
oscar.young_1

If you want a good refresher or overview of ASC 606, this course provides that. If you wanted answers on how COVID impacts the application of ASC 606, this course is good at identifying questions to consider but leave many questions unanswered.

User Image
heather.summers

Decent refresher course, plus you learn a few items to make excel easier.

User Image
athena.pallares

Nice refresher for excel skills that can be used to detect fraud.

User Image
dustin.stuart

I am somebody that hopes and believes that crypto will be the future of payments and investing. The one thing I do not like is how scared people get when you mention the word crypto. People are also very misinformed a lot of times or just do not care to be informed. So my only critique would be the fact that the risks of cryptocurrencies are comparable to investing in stocks or holding cash in a bank account. Illegal acts have been happening since the dawn of man and cryptocurrency has a fraction of wrongdoing on its RAP sheet compared to cash and other financial tools. Just trying to make crypto seem less scary. Change is good.

User Image
kerry.plemmons

Very good information given in this course, and given in a way that was very informative, not too wordy, and easy to understand.

Great introduction course! PLEASE REVIEW THE COURSE FOR THE NUMBER OF CPE CREDITS. SHOULD BE 2.5?

User Image
beverly.allgood

This was a good overview of data modeling & the progressive ways available in Excel of data consolidation.

User Image
thor.bendickson

Though the material in this course was well thought out and presented, I found it distasteful and unpatriotic to include a former president, not just as an example of an amoral/immoral leader, but also the answer to an exam question. Keep your politics out of my professional learning materials...

User Image
aaron.erdmann

Dry but had a few jokes. It was monotone. Good information though.

User Image
michael.izzo

Great overview of manager mistakes that are made early on when becoming a manager for the first time.

I like that the course broke down standard cost into the basics. I felt it was a good introduction to the concepts that will then allow me to explore more detailed course options.

User Image
daniel.contreras

Similar to David's other courses, instruction was clear and concise. Not only will this help build a solid budget, but a few neat shortcuts and formulas are presented as well.

User Image
craig.campbell

This course was well developed and well presented. Good coverage of the subject.

User Image

High level overview which is good, but I would appreciate accounting courses that were more detail. Illumeo appears to be lacking in government accounting courses.

maddison.lopez

Great review of the financial statements for CPE credit. Great professor and lesson.

User Image
darren.leiman

User Image
laura.mensel

This is essential, especially now in the COVID world.

I dislike the questions about the different versions of Excel. I don't think this is relevant to the learning objective.

User Image

Other illumeo presenters should take this course! Awesome!

User Image
chandelynrh

Excellent instructor! I look forward to taking more of his courses regarding non-profit organizations.

User Image
azadeh.hamidi

It was a great course. Though, there were too much information given in a short time. As the instructor said, it needs lots of practice and repetition to be more efficient.

User Image
meagan.johnston

I found that the power point did not have the take aways from the course.

User Image

User Image

User Image
thanh.truong

This course provides a detailed materials on preventing and detecting fraud.

User Image
jeffrey.mollett

This course was very well presented by Victoria and easy to follow. This course was very educational as I can relate to most categories in the Generational Melting Pot. My parents would have fallen into the baby boomer category or just before it. I was born during the Generation X category and can relate to and agree with many of the items discussed during the course. My kids would be considered in the iGens category - up and coming.

User Image
sdasilva

Clearly explained and easy to follow along and understand

User Image
lucy.kusewa

Comprehensive, informative and well delivered course.

User Image
emily.peter

It would be helpful to have screenshots or a video of the instructor working through the exercise.

User Image
tamara.hannon

Great advice! I only wish I would've seen this video sooner. I fell short on gathering all outside departments/groups together (my manager talked to them separately) and we didn't formally document current state (we only "sketched" the flow). All your steps were well thought out and descriptive. I can't wait to use these ideas.

User Image
justinesoares

Course was very helpful. Quiz questions were not as aligned to Payroll accounting as they could have been.

User Image
luke.etnier

very informational in a short amount of time. if you pause and work the examples with Blair, i think you can really learn a lot in a short amount of time.

User Image
yenny.coburn

The speakers talk a bit too fast at certain topic.

User Image
kim.weaver

While I appreciated the course content, the course itself was slow paced. I would prefer faster pace.

User Image
tammy.lorenz

It's a little look into the background of Accounts Payable. It was helpful to learn when liabilities is established.

User Image
mwong

Overall great webinar. It would be helpful to reduce the number of abbreviations in the slides though.

User Image
jeremy.sallie

What you would expect for a foundation level course. The questions proved to be a nice refresher.

User Image
hkovel

although some of the advice might seem too obvious, overall it's a great overview of best practices on how to prepare for the interview

User Image
ahollenkamp

The course was very interesting! Lynn did a great job explaining forensic accounting!

User Image
laurence.gutcher

The presenter lacks tone and speaks far too slowly to remain engaged. The presenter also reads the slides, providing very little additional insight.

User Image
kirit.kapadia

Good insight in personalities and leadership. Excellent explanations of human behavior

User Image
mbalberan

I will definitely recommend this course to my co employee

User Image
tonia.mathew

The overlap of information on the slides makes it hard for reference purposes.

User Image
binita.thakker

Excellent course and helpful in many ways. Can there be another course from this instructor on how to handle Q&A when presenting financial information?

User Image
theodore.zeck

This came pretty easy to me, as I'm a CPA by license, but layman at heart.

User Image
angan

This is an excellent starter course to get anyone who is interested in the new revenue recognition standards, ASC 606, familiar with the new requirements. It breaks down the 5 step model and explains what is required for each step.

User Image

very importnat program coz, it gives you the tools to improve and get the rigth way to intriduce yourself with succes, and this is what we need in this business race

User Image

Always have heard "it's who you know and not what you know." However, something always felt wrong about that. R*R=S: seeing it on paper (slideshow) crystallized success and is a far better way to view success.

User Image
richard.walser_1

Great review. Covered a lot of points to remember and implement as needed.

User Image
susan.hertz

This course provides real-life examples and practical tools to apply in my workplace.

User Image
lori.sherrill

The instructor gives me much to think about. There is so much in here that I think many aren't willing to say even though we know it to be true. There are many politics involved in the workplace. It is unfortunate, but reality, and he helps you to work through this unfortunate reality.

User Image
declanharte
