This course teaches you how to get the most out of Microsoft Outlook productivity tools to improve your productivity, sanity, efficiency and work-life balance.

Microsoft Outlook is probably the top productivity suite for professionals—and yet only 10% are using it to its full capability. This course demonstrates how to utilize all five of Outlook’s tools—E-Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Notes and Tasks—to better manage your time, staff and projects and achieve higher-levels of focus, relationship-building and productivity. With tips and usage demonstrations, this course will help you become less reactive, stressed out and distracted, and more proactive with:

  • Managing multiple projects and tasks
  • Maintaining “traction” when dealing with tasks and interruptions
  • Clearing the clutter for better focus
  • Keeping staff and team members on task
  • Tracking deliverables
  • Managing your calendar and contacts for better time and relationship management

The instructor also shares strategies on how to better manage, organize and prioritize e-mail for improved productivity and time management.

This course features all software demos in Microsoft Outlook 2010, although users of Outlook 2007 and 2003 will still greatly benefit from this program. Future versions of this Illumeo course will feature the new Outlook 2013 as well as Gmail and other Google productivity suite applications.

Part of a series taught by author and productivity expert Randy Dean.

* This course shows screen shots which may have small text as they are demonstrating real-world use of software which has font sizing we cannot change for demonstration purposes. Therefore, your experience will be best on a full screen device such as a tablet, laptop of desktop computer. We recommend that you fully upsize the screen when you view these videos.

Prerequisites
  • A basic understanding and use of Microsoft Office/Outlook
  • It is strongly recommended, but not required, that you complete the related Taming the E-mail Beast Using MS Outlook program also posted on Illumeo. The combination of these two programs will lead to the best outcomes and a much deeper skill set for most MS Outlook users.
Learning Objective
  • Enable getting the most out of Microsoft Outlook across all five key functions: E-Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Notes and Tasks
  • Integrate Outlook software into your time, project, people, and e-mail/info management systems
  • Utilize the Calendar in conjunction with the Task list to master the critical professional survival skill of effective prioritization
  • Demonstrate a very simple rule for managing E-Mail to reduce distractions, increase speed and prioritize messages and tasks.
  • Demonstrate how to use embedded E-Mail functions to automate common activities and messages
  • Utilize the Notes function to help clear your desk and mind by creating several highly useful lists for organizing random clutter
  • Enhance Contact information for better relationships and communications.
  • Manage projects and people through more effective use of Calendar and Task lists

Of the many, many courses I have taken on the Illumeo platform, this was definitely one of the best and most insightful. I have always found elements of "behavioral finance" to be fascinating and powerful in planning, strategy, and business performance. Mr. Stephens has bundled the leading theories and presented them as a unified new "dimension" for planners and leaders to factor in. He has done so in a manner that CFO's and other business leaders will undoubtedly find easy to digest, replete with useful examples. The consideration of these concepts will undoubtedly add value via improvement decision-making and more enlightened risk assessments. Thank you for such a quality contribution to the Illumeo portfolio!!

User Image
matt.watkins

User Image
atroche

perfect course to learn usefull fuctions within excel to help manage data and analysis.

User Image
tanya.noor

Such a great course, and very useful tools! I would highly recommend it.

User Image
annette.lane

I learned a lot in this course and liked that the instructor added information and comments in addition to the printed slides. This was a lot of data to consume and would probably worth a second time around. I cannot say that I fully understand the blockchain even after this course but I certainly have a better rudimentary knowledge.

User Image
g.sosa

excellent the content was well done. I would fully recommend this for someone that needs to learn more about excel. I feel that I opened a new world of formulas and things I did not know about excel.

User Image
anthony.ukena

Pretty interesting course on finding shortcuts for organizing data. Found the Data Table section most useful.

User Image
taylor.bailey

This course was especially helpful to me to find out more about the function of internal auditors as I have recently worked with them.

User Image
chris.hole

It's hard to distill the entire history of ethical thought down into a 2 hour business course, but I give credit to the instructor for making the effort.

User Image
jeremy.johnson

Good instructor and very informative. Gives a good overview of what should be considered.

User Image
tromman

Great course. Clear, engaging, good pace and relevant examples. Thank you Teija for putting this together.

User Image
dominick.pariano

What a fantastic course! This course was chock full of great tips and general ideas. Definitely a ton of "a ha" kind of moments and very helpful for those of us at the middle management level who would like to try to convince the Executive level that moving even at least to data mining would be helpful. Also, really appreciated the presenter's use of helpful visuals as well.

User Image
megan.hartnett

Content great and topics in general are still relevant, but this is using the 2010 version and could be enhanced with new features and M365 integration.

User Image
hunter.praska

User Image
nicholas.wilhelm

The excitement of the content combined with the enthusiasm and insight of Mr. Wasny make this course, along with those he presents on AI, the most inspiring and motivational I've experienced on this platform.

User Image
leslie.ockman

I liked the info but the presentation was a bit robotic.

User Image
angela.gourley

it was very intersting to have the contection to the case in Canada.

User Image
matthew.sloan

User Image
reva.westbrook

Very good instructor who goes through systematically the commands and their usage. The additional workbook helps so that you can practice the activities as you go.

User Image
steve.bonham

Well organized content laid out in a logical manner.

User Image
lori.marchese

better explanation of exception calculations - tables with values did not include calculation of numerator or denominator units within module should have better labels for reference purpose Ex - lifetime opportunity credit as opposed to part # continued difficult to use materials for

User Image
paul.francom

I learned a lot, but the test questions were out in left field and there are no slides.

User Image
cynthia.quigley

Good information, but too much repetition of the same exact words in each section. More self promotion than I usually see in these courses.

User Image
jeff_k.weidman

A great course...the taming e-mail decision tree is gold.

User Image
timphilips1

Terrible quiz questions....wrong tenses and unprofessional grammar (E.g. "little white lies" and "cut it"). Also, thanks for the interesting but totally irrelevant adrenal system questions.

User Image
kim.johnson

Well thought-out content and presentation. Periodic mis-spell and various fonts made it seem less professional and the course was prepared on the fly with heavy Covid-19/Zoom fatigue :)

User Image
ryanq.hunsucker

This is incredibly outdated. He is referencing Excel 2007.

User Image
kevin.murray

The course covers a significant amount of material that is often uncommon such as disposal of divisions and going concern treatments. It's well done and interesting.

User Image
randy.leduc

This was a great course to introduce me to features of excel that I have never used to give me a great understanding of how they might be used in practical everyday applications of Excel.

User Image
judy.silverman

Excellent refresher course and reference for future use. Instructor and materials are also excellent.

User Image
carmen_.reyes-cruz

I like the trick to think of at least 3 options or choices in deciding on solutions to a problem.

User Image
andrea.lengel

The presentation was a bit long-winded, which made it difficult for me to follow. Also, the terminology in the presentation did not always seem consistent.

User Image
ginger.adams

Adding slides to visually show the examples discussed orally would really improve the user's comprehension. Great coverage of the topic.

User Image
dave.storer

The course work for this course was helpful for completing the assignments.

User Image
jennifer.leach

Wonderful tips - I actually paused the webinar and put his tips into use. I configured categories and created signatures for my recurring emails. Highly recommend this course!

User Image
ben.lowy

I thought the course was informative and these tricks should save me time at work with the tasks i need to complete. I recommend this course to anyone. Thank you

User Image
marc.odenweller

There is no way the testing answers are correct (i have ran into this a few times). Question 5 answers are follow by-laws of parent org, or set rules on their own but within framework of parent org, or set your own rules and somehow the answer is all of the above even though c is mutually exclusive.

User Image
michelle.zwanepoel

This course teaches you to how to think about thinking. Excellent how the presenter (who is excellent) explained the concepts using not just general but accountant specific problems.

User Image
carrie.kaminski

almost bailed when I saw it was 2014, but info is still relevant today and I did learn from it!

User Image
ann.molter

Excellent overview of COSO and internal controls for preventing fraud in the workplace. Detailed welk-through of the 16 principles with examples facilitate application of the principles to one's own environment.

User Image
michael.fairchild

Slides should be prepared in advance, no slide materials to retain and or review, and the exam questions were very poorly worded relative to answer choices.

User Image
monica.jolla

The class was presented in a perfect pace for my learning style. The slides are easy to follow and great for future reference.

User Image
angela.schultz

Having 3 different people jumping back and forth caused a lot of confusion and the material seemed to have gaps. Specifically betwen slide 22 & 23. At the beginning of slide 23 she says thank you for all of that insight....what insight? I didn't hear any insight from slide 22 as it seemed they skipped over half of that slide. The presentation was very choppy. I ended up stopping the presentation and just thumbing through the slides to get a passing exam. There are other really great courses on AI within Illumeo to explore

User Image
randi.leveroni

A lot of useful information on basics of accounting.

User Image
emily.xiong

This course was very easy to follow and well explained on how to use Excel functions and shortcuts.

User Image
christopher.koutsakos

I liked the variety of topics covered in this course. It covers a lot about the psychology of making financial decisions.

User Image
jessica.beck

The instructor spoke a little slow for my taste. I had to speed up the video to help me follow along. Good course, though.

User Image
sandi.mcdonald

Too much repetition and not enough instruction on how outlook works.

User Image
nina.sirak

This course contains a lot useful information and tools that are easily implemented! Examples were easy to follow.

User Image
sue.miller

Super clear instructions with excellent examples provided to work through.

User Image
kara.deis

A recent volunteer position has me dealing with a large amount of data downloads, and this course has so many good points on dealing with the various situations that I am already struggling to correct. (effective instructor...missing the training file that he typically includes) That is the only reason for my less than perfect scoring and seems to be a platform issue.

User Image
george.bruffey_iii

User Image
jeff.cassell

Excellent speaker who is clear, concise, and gave relevant examples that supplemented the course theories.

User Image
nicholas.norris

I believe younger people and those who lack experience with public speaking would greatly benefit from this. Learning about listening and understanding the audience is what can separate decent public speakers from the great ones.

User Image
jericho.hallimore

I appreciate some of the functions that have been used in the past or can be used by combining functions to an extent that it helps understanding the new functions. But in this presentation there seemed to be so much of it became confusing or a bit of information overload.

User Image
karla.kerce

I would have liked to had a worksheet for the examples.

User Image
kagiso_spencer.thitoyamore

The slides must reflect everything stated in the audio

User Image
tandy.brekke

Nothing new. Not particularly engaging. Some outdated ideas (women should wear makeup...)

The tips provided relative to using the Notes section in Outlook will also be very helpful There is no doubt that I will be able to use the information provided in this course to better manage my time and and track my tasks. After taking this course, I am definitely going to follow it up with his course on Email management.

User Image

Course seemed disorganized and did not flow well. I didnt care for the section about the examples of clients the instructor had coached.

User Image
frank.gonzalez

Excellent overview of covered material. Examples and support material were helpful in understanding each excel tip.

User Image
rachel.montoya

This was overall really great. I would have left out the Power Query section as it didn't feel like it quite fit in.

User Image
dustin.stuart

I am somebody that hopes and believes that crypto will be the future of payments and investing. The one thing I do not like is how scared people get when you mention the word crypto. People are also very misinformed a lot of times or just do not care to be informed. So my only critique would be the fact that the risks of cryptocurrencies are comparable to investing in stocks or holding cash in a bank account. Illegal acts have been happening since the dawn of man and cryptocurrency has a fraction of wrongdoing on its RAP sheet compared to cash and other financial tools. Just trying to make crypto seem less scary. Change is good.

User Image
kerry.plemmons

Very good information given in this course, and given in a way that was very informative, not too wordy, and easy to understand.

User Image
luc.dufour

Some tips are useful and can helo improve using excell more efficiently.

User Image
sdecastro

The course was very informative and helpful. Learned a lot of new terminologies.

User Image
thor.bendickson

Though the material in this course was well thought out and presented, I found it distasteful and unpatriotic to include a former president, not just as an example of an amoral/immoral leader, but also the answer to an exam question. Keep your politics out of my professional learning materials...

User Image
stephen.sylvester

In just two hours, this course will allow accounting and finance professionals to write significantly better. The first part of the course shines. As a professional writer, it provided a useful summary of business writing principles. Most professionals will learn new information that they can instantly apply to improve their writing. While the second part also provided critical information, it felt much less content-dense than the first part. This section only needed half the time allotted. Overall, an excellent course and a productive use of time.

User Image
bev.stenger

Two exam questions were super confusing. Not well written. #2 and #4, other than that, was an excellent course

User Image
jacob.keiner

User Image
jesse.campbell

This course did a really nice job with individual case studies and footage of historical figures to illustrate the contrasts in leadership.

User Image
dena.wright

While downloading the slide deck noticed the slides on communication were missing.

User Image
adara.reese

User Image
metodi.n.penchev

Excellent course! Recommended for everyone who wants expand his knowledge of Power BI.

User Image
tanner.cork

Course should be labeled as text only. The only portion that is video format is the VBOA introduction.

User Image
miho.imamura

The instructor used the real incidents she experienced in explaining the concepts of ethics, which facilitated my understanding.

User Image
scott.dickens

Great course. However, question 10 answer on final exam is incorrect.

User Image
paul.tansley

good course

User Image
ross.wilson

I like that the course broke down standard cost into the basics. I felt it was a good introduction to the concepts that will then allow me to explore more detailed course options.

User Image
daniel.contreras

Similar to David's other courses, instruction was clear and concise. Not only will this help build a solid budget, but a few neat shortcuts and formulas are presented as well.

User Image
josh.fasano

Good review and examples. I suggest a few more exercises like at the end.

User Image
simon.antonsen

The presentation was a little dry - obvious that the presenter was just reading material.

User Image
tedstiefel

Great content! I really learned a lot about how to apply Excel functions to financial planning & analysis.

User Image
micheal.oconnor

Good review course. This was a solid refresher for something I have been away from for some time.

User Image
danielle.dell

The information is spoking in the presentation but not clearly documented so found the test hard to determine

User Image
octavia.saunders

This class was very informative, I like how they gave detailed examples to have a better understanding.

User Image
diana.carter

There should be a handout which can be referred to with more information that assists with the exam. This took longer than 3 hours.

User Image
sarah.randall

Very helpful understanding the "why" behind some of these resources, as well as how to use them faster and more efficiently.

User Image
cindy.wells

Explanation/presentation was very conversational and provided a lot of insight based on real experience with the legislation.

User Image
melissa.montgomery

Good info. Print Screen + crop is an odd choice when we have paste picture and snip tools (not to mention what's cropped remains hidden and could embarrass someone if revealed). I really like the new functions and hope I can find a use for them. I think the new dynamic array stuff is not yet available on my 365 because it didn't work.

User Image
reut.cohen

I wish I saw this training at my previous job. What a good, straightforward approach to managing the situation.

User Image
tiffany.donnelly

Review of Tasks was very helpful - will begin incorporating this tool into my daily and weekly recurring work.

User Image
roger.cluff

The course had a lot of good information, although a significant amount was more of a refresher than new content. However, the concepts on integrating the functionality of Outlook into a more cohesive time management process was helpful.

User Image
julia.mccarthy

Good content, however the feedback or paper moving really made it difficult at times.

User Image
ben.stewart

Very useful for anyone who is considering implementing a workflow system.

User Image
david_.ord

Enjoyed the take away for me of the importance of a leader looking ahead to the future instead of focusing on what happened in the past.

User Image
dhaval.kadakia

Very good refresher! Must take it every few years. Very good coverage.

User Image
regina.stewart

This was an excellent presentation of tools that are key to efficient payroll analysis. The student should invest personal time practicing the applications but the material could not have been presented better. The overview followed by the actual application in the worksheet was extremely helpful in following along. All excel courses should be taught this way. Slides were well formatted and are usable for future reference.

User Image
erp

I really enjoy Ms. Diamond's trainings. Her tips are practical and actionable. I especially like that she suggests multiple ways to achieve an outcome, based on personal preference. I still like pen and paper. Thank you!

User Image
sandy.casiraghi

Good organization of tips. Nice to know I already use many of these, so it's nice to know I've had good mentors. But, there are some I can add. Good presentation, easy to listen to.

Duplication of efforts noted in having two separate teams to setup vendors or add/edit vendors.

User Image
kevin.kilroy

Good information well presented. Critical information for all finance people to learn

User Image
donald.petter

David documents his points very thoroughly. His notes can be used for reference later to reinforce his teaching. I highly recommend him as an instructor.

User Image
brennen.hale

I agree with another review of the course i've seen. Class and information is great, however the questions involve too many "which is these is not" true types of questions which can add confusion to the reader.

User Image
rhonda.unthank

Excellent course lead by an effective instructor. Great content.

User Image
y_avazov

User Image
dung.luong

I like the examples given in this course, which are detailed, and very realistic.

User Image
john.keating

The material is useful but the instructor is monotone, which makes it difficult to stay engaged.

User Image
neil.marriott

Especially appreciated the suggestions for feedback and meetings at the end of the presentation. Thanks Erin.

User Image
rahman.ullah

The course was interesting but could have been more organized and concise. The key concepts tested are spoken not listed on the slides.

User Image
michael.mcspadden

I like seeing the screenshots of actions to be performed and then performing the actual actions live in Excel.

User Image
huy.phan

This is a very good introduction and summary of the new lease accounting standard, ASC 842. It does a nice job of walking through the actual transactions. However, the differences between the old and the new standard are not discussed in any detail. It would be nice to know exactly what has changed.

User Image
emily.peter

It would be helpful to have screenshots or a video of the instructor working through the exercise.

User Image
michelle.mazepa

The hands-on application of regression analysis, though simplified, was helpful in understanding how to interpret the results

User Image

User Image
leslie.loudon

Very informative and relate-able. Speaker was great as well.

User Image
vince.torchia

The course makes it seem like these changes would be simple when in reality this is a very high level overview.

User Image

This class should be broken out into two classes. This is a lot of information for one class.

User Image
jason.schlueter

User Image
jim.klimkowski

Absolutely wonderful course. I am going to take the deep dive on email. The activities button in contacts was worth the entire 1.5 hours. Wish he would of started with the views functionality. Still get confused on how to work this function and don't feel confident I have the most effective view on all of my screens.

User Image
andrew.anderson

good course except that the presenter's screen was blurry and I couldn't see clearly

User Image
da-chin.lin

It is a very good course. I strongly recommend. It shows what CPAs need to know in business. Easy to understand.

User Image
bryan.oliver

Thoroughly enjoyed the detailed analysis of excel functions and shortcuts. Excel is such an underutilized tool for data analytics.

User Image
craig.scanlon

Much prefer video presentations. Case facts are much more obvious than typical fraud cases. CPA should never practice again demonstrating no knowledge and/or interest in identifying basis of fair financial presentation or uncovering significant issues with client financials.

User Image
laj

audio was not the best and made his accent even harder to understand. he was reading a script very poorly and not presenting / chatting with the listener.

User Image
antonio.crawford

The course is excellent, it adds a different perspective in the function of the CAE as part of the company.

User Image
binita.thakker

User Image
chalsey

The pace is slow, but this is a thorough review of basic accounting.

User Image
kathy.crelly

I enjoyed the comparison examples of AICPA statements to a more useful format for non-financial users. I also thought it was interesting to see how many things should be included besides just the big 3 financial statements to make the data more meaningful. I will be checking out the references provided also.

Great review. Covered a lot of points to remember and implement as needed.

User Image
tbielas

I love how you used very clear and specific examples! Thank you Leslie!

User Image
diane.suznovich

It seemed that slides were not in order. For example, the review of the first question was not presented until the final section. Also, 120/240 equals 50% not 240/120, which equals 2, as shown on the slides.

User Image
torin.campbell

Very thorough and valuable information. I noticed after I was part way into the course that the copyright mark is 2015 so I wonder what's different in 2017? I'll have to look into it....

I liked the pacing of the course, it starts simple and builds to the most complex. By the time you get to the complex you feel ready for it. I had not taken an earlier course so I was lost on a few of the shortcuts that were heavily referenced, but that was a minor problem.

User Image
bret_lanning

I liked the course and the worksheets to work along with the video. Very helpful.
