Accounting and disclosure requirements for not-for-profit organizations differ significantly from those of for-profit organizations. Not-for-profit organizations do not utilize equity ownership interests, receive a significant portion of their revenues from donors, and have different motives for existence than their for-profit counterparts.
This course analyzes the basics of Not-for-Profit Accounting as established by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) by reviewing the following four Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) standards:
- FASB No. 116 (Accounting for Contributions received and made)
- FASB No. 117 (Financial Statements of Not-for-Profit Organizations)
- FASB No. 124 (Accounting for Certain Investments Held by Not-for-Profit Organizations)
- FASB No. 157 (Fair Value Measurements)
The course will explore how the following categories distinguish Not-for-Profit Financial Statements:
- Contributions received and made
- Restricted, Temporarily Restricted and Unrestricted Funds
- Certain investments held by Not-for-Profit organizations
- Fair Value of assets

(62 rating)Helpful overview of the leasing process. Thank you for this course!
This was a good review of the Control Environment. It provided great explanations and examples.
Excellent course! This course provided a solid overview of the appropriate ethical standards of the accounting profession. The lesson demonstrated possible real-life scenarios that today's CPA may encounter and outlined the necessary steps to apply to in such cases to uphold the high ethical standards of the profession.
Excellent, concise overview of goodwill impairment.
It was good overall. Question #2 on the Final Exam has 2 of the same answers as choices.
Good discussion but I don't think the answer for the first review question is correct.
This course met its stated objectives and provided relevant useful information.
happy to pass the exam at one time, Great and thanks you.
Great information about useful tools. Didn't know there were so many plugins available

Course was easy to follow and informative on the closing process for a company to be able to prepare financial statements that are correct.
Very informative with nice charts/graphs. It is a lot to know, but good to know these rules exist to look them up.
Acquired knowledge. presented clearly and succintly. Would take subsequent courses if available.
Excellent course for both smaller and larger businesses. Instructor is great at presenting a wealth of useful information very directly and clearly
Gained more understanding on the contract modification although it really is confusing, the trainer provided examples to help us understand more on the concept. Appreciate if we have specific courses/examples for NPOs.
This was a great course to introduce me to features of excel that I have never used to give me a great understanding of how they might be used in practical everyday applications of Excel.
Excellent refresher course and reference for future use. Instructor and materials are also excellent.
they didn't give clear examples on the courses and it was hard to navigate through it unless you go to search by yourself
Presenter is easy to listen to but, the course needs real world examples - not just reading tax brackets.
It was a lot of good information that I was unaware of due to overwhelming work schedules these past few years since inception of TIGTA. The review and test were a bit confusing.. especially since some of the answers were not the same as an IRS.GOV site, so where to locate? Either way, the course and information was quite informative.
Course was relevant and a good road map to live all aspects of your life.
Excellent course, very well organized and presented, with practical examples provided.
Slides should be prepared in advance, no slide materials to retain and or review, and the exam questions were very poorly worded relative to answer choices.
Detailed and informative course with plenty of examples to illustrate application of laws into practice.
Super clear instructions with excellent examples provided to work through.
I really enjoyed the way Carlann handled this topic. I look forward to taking more of her courses.

Good discussion of potential pitfalls to watch out for when working with NFP
The pacing of the course is a bit slow for me. However, there are good basic information regarding not-for-profit accounting contained in this course.
This is a really good informative course--thanks for putting it together.
The speaker demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the subject matter and its implementation. Very balanced overview and a good introduction to the subject matter.
Good material and overview of SAAS metrics. Sound was a little low could be increased but otherwise good
This is an area of the tax law that is very complicated. This course provided a good general overview of the rules in an organized fashion.
This course is a good overview of professional ethics for MD CPAs
Material not specific enough in terms of definitions and concepts.
The instructor provided very helpful information. He is very clear and easy to follow. The samples are practical.
Liked the presentation. Information was presented clearly, in a format that was easy to follow.
Highly effective examples incorporated into the course.
The material was presented in a clear and understandable manner.
I loved the instructor's humor! Yet he still was professional and taught the course well.
Great general overview of the topics surrounding forensic accounting.
Excellent discussion and presentation of ethics for organizations!
I enjoyed how the presenter outlined the material. He came across very knowledgeable and was able to present the information in a logical manner.
This is an excellent course from Lynn Fountain! The real-life scenarios and current event considerations bring life to the topic.
Obvious the speaker had a great handle on the topic. I have gave many successful presentations and still learned from this course on how to do even better!
Lots of material covered; very helpful. Thank you!
Loved all the examples and the instruction was top notch.
The topics were discussed with excellent examples and concisely.
This course was not exactly what I expected but turned out to be very informative
I think Mr. Cook is an excellent presenter. Why aren't there more written / graphic / notated materials included with the CPE? More expensive CPE products generally include a PowerPoint. More important would be a transcript which can be very valuable for busy note-takers. I'm surprised these are not made available.
This was a very confusing one. I finally passed when I answered one question which seemed again what the material and I understood. It was question six. I disagree that it should be answer A. A going concern is considered when a company has issues about going a year from the opinion letter date.
Great course. However, question 10 answer on final exam is incorrect.
High level overview which is good, but I would appreciate accounting courses that were more detail. Illumeo appears to be lacking in government accounting courses.
This course was like listening to a very interesting podcast. The instructor was very engaging, interesting and offered a lot of insight that was not necessarily very obvious. I took this course because I need to fulfill my CPE credits, but I would have listened to this course in my free time regardless, as I found it to be very, very well done.
Awesome course! I learned so much about PivotTables, Power Query, Relationships, etc. Very informative - I am looking forward to doing more courses by Mr. Wu.
Great basic course to provide a basic understanding of business combinations under topic 805. Would be better if it was not a text based course but an instructor led program.
This is one of the most useful courses I have ever taken. Thank you for the helpful fixes to so many of the common problems we face in managing our inboxes.
This instructor courses are always very helpful and are well thought out. I always look for her courses on-line as I always learn something new and interesting from her classes.
Great course in ethics of the CFO. Employees will only be as good as their management and this course emphasizes how the CFO can set the standard.
This was a good and basic introduction to the business process mapping.
well thought out and acceptable for cpe review purposes
Very well spoken and concise summary of the major updates
Good overview of financial forecasting methods. Would recommend for beginners.
I thought the wording used on the exam questions was somewhat unclear.
This was a very interesting course with skilled presenters.
This was a very good overview of the new lease accounting process with excellent examples.
Awesome course. A deep dive into excel formulas extremely useful for data analysis.
The speakers talk a bit too fast at certain topic.
This was well detailed while providing very efficient timely lessons of the general topic.
What you would expect for a foundation level course. The questions proved to be a nice refresher.
Included much relevant material for building a strong Internal Audit function.
GREAT synopsis for documenting internal controls. This course really refreshed some points that I am pursuing in my organization.
Good insight in personalities and leadership. Excellent explanations of human behavior
The overlap of information on the slides makes it hard for reference purposes.
There is no correct answer for question #3. Can you double check this?
This course was a thorough reminder of the ethical requirements of the CFO, as well as the general responsibilities of the role.
It seemed a little odd to spend only 10 percent of the class on solutions and not to have a section on examples of how solutions work. I think there was some of this in the rest of the course, but it wasn't explicit.
Excellent course pace, completeness and learning objectives a must to better understand the budget cycle.
Comprehensive overview with detailed steps to a good fraud mitigation program. Instructor laid out what was to be covered and then covered it.
Really enjoy how Marc & Paul present together - engaging!
Good job logically laying this out. The use of video to demonstrate the technique was excellent. The instructor would be easier to listen to if he didn't end every sentance with "right?"
A useful and technical course topic which was presented in a clear and concise manner.
Harder to understand than i thought with my pivot experience.
This was a good refresher course on CVP
very good
A very interesting topic, another one they don't teach you in school.
Instructor was easy to understand and provided good examples in the presentation. The handouts and materials were very helpful learning tools also.
Slides very helpful. Information very thorough.
Very informative
The speaker was a little dry, but the information was good
liked the convenience; it was good information
It would be helpful if there were review slides.
The class delivery was efficient and effective.
Clear and concise - great examples provided. A great course for any experienced auditor.
M
Now I use the sub total function.
good review material
What about online identity theft companies? What do they do and are there worth the money? What are the steps to take if you have your identity stolen?
I liked that the instructor included a video of herself with the slides and she did not just read from the cards.
Test questions were not captured in the presentation materials.
Good overview of basic accounting principles
Good overview...
Great tips!
excellent refresher
Great material. Too fast to follow at times.
Done
Too many slides in the deck. Some of the color background slides do not have the proper contrast and are high to read. Course should be more than 1 CPE based on the amount of material.
l like learn about this course and subject We will follow full courses for an intense love thank you very much
jim, i am okay with him
good material and information.
This is a great course and a great speaker. There is so much to learn about Excel and this is one of many steps to get there.
Honestly the presenter was difficult to understand in his manner of speaking at times. He would talk about a slide, but not the slide that was actually showing. Make it a little difficult, but was able to understand the bulk of the class. He mostly read the slides without much other input.
I thought this was a good course. You would need to know just a little bit about accounting to not be confused since it's such a quick overview, but is a great refresher for someone that may not have seen the information in a while.
Easy learning and well explained.Worth learning.
Difficult to understand speaker
Liked that the instructor talked quickly. In addition, he said what he was going to show, and then went through the actual steps.
Once again Mr. Lenning provides clear understanding.
Great content and the slides were put together well. I would just suggest that the speaker speak faster. There were way to many long pauses and I feel like a lot more information could have been fit into the 1 hour.
Good class! Met my objectives. Sound quality was very inconsistent. At one moment the speaker could be clearly heard and the next moment not. Maybe he moved around and turned away from the microphone. Don't know.
Well presented and logical.
